A yummy healthy fruit desert, even kids will eat!

This is my famous peaches-and-cream sundae.  Lightly grill a fresh peach (it has to be a fresh peach) that has been pitted and halved.  Serve with ¼ cup of vanilla ice cream.  Drizzle with honey, if desired.  This is what I call, “Nectar of the Gods”.  Woman’s World, 2015

Another recipe I also call “Nectar of the Gods” is as follows:
Take ¾ cup Greek Yogurt, then add lots of sliced almonds, and then drizzle honey on top of that.  Just great, and so good for you!

Pick an apple!

Soon we will be in apple season. When we go shopping, we will see bins of apples with names we never heard of before. Which ones should we choose to make a pie, or use for an apple cake?  Those are the questions! To make the process of selection a little easier, here is a short list. This list was taken from a Julia Childs’ cookbook. Who knows better than Julia Childs!

Making a salad:  choose Cameo, Cortland, Empire, Fuji, Gala, Ginger Gold, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Jonagold or Red Delicious.

Sauteing: choose, Braeburn, Empire, Fuji, Gala, Ginger Gold, Honeycrisp, or Newtown Pippen. Sauteing is the French word for lightly frying. Take a little bit of butter and salt, add the apples and gently cook the apples until soft.

Roasting:  choose, Cameo, Cortland, Golden Delicious, Granny smith, Idared, Jonagold, Jonathan, or Rome Beauty. These apples would be used for baked apples.  Baked apples are a perfect desert on a cold autumn day.

A New Benefit to Being Mindful

Mindfulness is having its “moment”, and here’s one more reason to give it a shot:  Menopause symptoms (such as anxiety, hot flashes, and sleep problems) reported by women who practiced mindfulness, were calmer according to a new study.

Often these symptoms can trigger a fight-or-flight response, that causes things like rapid breathing, spiking of blood pressure, pulse rate, and blood sugar.  “With mindfulness, a woman can choose to focus on taking slow, deep breaths, that steer her away from the panic,” says Richa Sood, MD an associate professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic.

She suggests trying a guided meditation video online or a meditation app like Headspace or Calm.   Prevention, July 2019
