Good morning everyone, and hope you are keeping yourselves cool! This week, I have several recipes for you and a few health websites.

Ann Curry, the former NBC news correspondent, is heading up a new health show which started last Thursday night, August 8th. It airs at 9 pm ET on TNT and TBS.  Her show is called, Chasing the Cure, and it is based on actual cases of misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or mysterious medical ailments.  During each episode, a panel of medical professionals evaluate a patient’s puzzling case.  The first broadcast premiered live on Thursday, August 8th.  The second episode will air this Thursday, August 15th.

Websites to consider:

www.gardenguides.com  -I used this site when planting vegetable and flowers with my fifth graders.  Very helpful.  It is the official website of the National Gardening Association.  It offers video tutorials.  Star Nursery gave this website to me.  Hope you find it helpful.

 scrapbooking.com
The how- to video is very good, suggesting many great ideas.  This website was given to me by Michael’s Art Supplies.  (I love Michaels!  I should buy stock!).

www.yelp.com    My sister, Nancy, loves this website.  She checks on local businesses and eliminates those businesses with poor service and quality scores. A great source for researching local services such as carpentry, plumbing and house painting.

Chocolate Chia Pudding recipe

submitted by my sister-in-law, Cathy M.
Cathy says this is a delicious quick, easy and healthy recipe; and the pudding benefits stable blood sugar, increased energy levels, is a great source of protein, and is also a good source of antioxidants.
Add together:  1 cup plain almond milk (low sugar), 2 Tbsp. chia seeds, ½ tsp. vanilla extract, 2 tsp coconut sugar (she also suggests maple syrup in place of the sugar), 1Tbsp cocoa or cacao powder.
Combine all ingredients listed in a blender, or even a jar. Mix well.  Allow to sit for 1-10 hours in the refrigerator.
Garnish with berries or shredded coconut.
Add more chia seeds if you would prefer a thicker consistency. Cathy says if you don’t have almond milk, you can substitute 1 cup of water with 1 Tbsp. of almond butter.  Voila!!
Ahhhh, delicious and healthy.  What more could we ask for?

Female Heart Savers

*always check with your own doctor before taking ANY type of medication or herbs. Herbs are wonderful and healing; however, you may be allergic, or using herbs may work negatively with your prescribed medication.  Always check with your doctor.

Here are five great suggestions for preserving your heart.  Statistics claim that women are more prone to heart disease than men, so we have to take care of ourselves.

 1.     CoQ10.  This is an enzyme that helps energize the cells in our heart and enhances its natural pumping ability.
 2.   Hawthorn.  This is an herbal powerhouse!  It makes your heart muscles strong and helps relax blood vessels for healthy blood pressure.
 3.   L-carnitine.  This is an amino acid that increases the heart’s pumping action.  This also helps with your metabolism.
 4.   L-taurine.  It improves blood flow and helps reduce blood pressure by “opening up” your blood vessels.
 5.   Magnesium. This is a mineral that helps keep your heartbeat nice and steady.
